Class Activities & Academic Goals

GROUP I
  • Parents attend one day a week with child; child attends two days a week.
  • Taught by Teacher Elizabeth, this class provides a smooth transition from home to school and an introduction to group activity. The child/adult ratio is 2:1, offering ample guidance for the younger children as they learn social skills and participate in class. A typical morning includes art projects, story time, free choice time (blocks, dress-up, puzzles, games, and more), music, snack, and outdoor play.
GROUP II
  • Parents attend one day a week with child; child attends three days a week.
  • Taught by Teacher Amanda, this class encourages continued social and emotional development through group participation as the children explore the world around them. The child/adult ratio is 3:1, as parents help guide the children in science discoveries, art projects and more. The class incorporates themes such as dinosaurs and friendship, into art projects, science, music, stories, and play activities.
GROUP III
  • Parents attend one day a week with child; child attends four days a week.
  • Taught by Teacher Amy, this class emphasizes independence through frequent field trips and by involving the children in classroom responsibilities. The child/adult ratio is 4:1, as parents guide the children in discovery.  This group offers the widest and most structured range of activities in the preschool. Group III graduates are well prepared for kindergarten.

School Calendar

Classes typically begin the third week of September and end the last week of May. KCP follows the Lake Washington School District Calendar. When they go on vacation, so do we. On half days and conference days for the Lake Washington School District, KCP families will attend class as usual. On the days when the school district has a late start, or is canceled school because of snow, there will be no preschool.
